About
Hey, I’m Akis Maziotis#
Site Reliability Engineer with 15+ years in infrastructure, cloud, and automation.
By day I deal with Kubernetes, Terraform, Grafana, and CI/CD pipelines. By night I do the same thing — but at home, with Home Assistant, ESPHome, Modbus, and IR blasters.
What this blog is about#
Documenting real-world home automation projects — not tutorials, but actual systems running in my house:
- ☀️ Solar & energy — EcoFlow PV surplus EV charging, zero-export automation
- 🌡️ HVAC — LG Therma V heat pump via Modbus, Daikin fancoils via Broadlink IR
- 🔐 Security — Reverse-engineered Sigma alarm integration (open source)
- 🔌 ESPHome — VBus protocol decoding, boiler monitoring, sensor builds
- 🌦️ Weather automation — Forecast-based awning protection
🌳 Everything is self-hosted on a local homelab. The blog itself runs on Hugo, served from a VM behind Cloudflare — and powered by the same solar panels I write about.
Live status — the badge in the footer of every page shows whether this blog is currently running on solar power or grid, updated every 5 minutes directly from the EcoFlow system:
Contribute#
mastori.dev is open to contributions. If you’ve built something interesting with Home Assistant — an automation, a hardware integration, a clever workaround — and you think it would be a good fit, submit a post.

No strict format required — just real projects, real hardware, real YAML. If it solves a problem someone else might have, it belongs here.
